Canine Good Citizen

Max applies his Canine Good Citizen skills along the Monon Trail in Carmel, Indiana
(for graduates of Puppy Preschool or Basic Dog Manners)

The Canine Good Citizen program will develop the skills needed for your dog to interact well with other people and dogs. It will also prepare your dog for a bright training future! Mastering the Canine Good Citizen program will help your dog:

  • Allow a friendly stranger to approach you with your dog under control
  • Accept handling by a veterinarian, groomer, etc.
  • Walk politely on a leash around people and other dogs
  • Sit & down on command and stay in that position
  • Come reliably when called
  • Remain calm and confident at all times when faced with common distracting situations
  • Maintain good manners when left with trusted people such as dog walkers, housesitters, etc.

Advanced Obedience Skills:

Gain your dog’s attention
  • Pay attention
  • Come when called
  • Touch a target
  • Attention Heeling
Avert unwanted behaviors
  • Not jumping up
  • Ignore items
  • Drop objects
  • Not breaking commands
Develop impulse control
  • “Learn to Earn”
  • Sit and down on command
  • Go to “place”
Final Exam
  • AKC Canine Good Citizen test
  • Work in public areas
  • Test obedience around distractions

Train at Home!

  • Canine Good Citizen classes are taught in your home and in neutral sites.
  • Lessons are scheduled at your own pace when it is best for you.
  • The curriculum is tailored to your needs.
  • The whole family can get involved!


  • The price of each private dog training lesson is $40.
  • You pay after each lesson.
  • Lesson are at least 60 minutes.
  • There is no extra charge for lessons that exceed 60 minutes.
